It can be tough at work when the biscuits and cakes start appearing.
Food and exercise are linked and it is handy to have some exercises you can do at your desk to not only improve your core strength but also distract you from the confectionary.
Now that it’s Monday, you’re determined to start the week off right. With that goal in mind, you’ve committed to eating healthy, as well as adding physical activity to the mix.
Since you also have a huge project on your plate, however, you’ll need to be creative about feeling the burn without leaving your desk. This will help you focus and feel good whilst completing the task at hand.
Here are our top five core exercises that can be done at your desk.
1. Standing side crunch
Standing at your desk with your feet flat on the ground, raise your right hand toward the ceiling. With control, raise your right knee out to the side and bring it toward your right elbow. After ten repetitions, repeat with the left side. Do three sets.
2. Desk plank
Placing your forearms on the top of your desk whilst standing. Lean forward on your desk with your legs and torso straight. Hold it for the amount of time you can do it correctly. Ten seconds correctly is better than a minute twisting your hips. See if you can build it up and hold it for one minute.
3. Torso twists
Sit up tall in your chair with your arms across your chest. Keep your hips and chair still as you twist your trunk but not your neck. Do ten in total and be aware of any tightness in your back. If you feel a pull at all, please leave this one or do some back stretches previously given to you and repeat the exercise.
4. Leg extensions
Sit up tall with your spine athletically straight to keep the core engaged. Lift one leg so your knee is in line with your hip and straighten the leg fifteen times. Keep the core engaged and exhale as you straighten the leg. Repeat on the other side.
5. The bridge
We are going to do the bridge with your legs on your chair. Lie on your back with your ankles on the chair. Lift your glutes keeping your shoulders on the floor. Try to get your body straight and stay strong on your core. Do ten reps slowly and with control. You can also do this with your legs bent and feet on the floor and build up to using the chair.

These are great exercises you can do for your core at your desk or at home. Even better they don’t take long to do.
