NAVIGATING NUTRITION AT WORK AND HOME

Sarah Beecroft

In 2020 the world changed drastically and perhaps your diet did too.

Registered nutritionist, Sarah Beecroft, works at Corporate Personal Wellbeing and recently completed her MSc in Nutritional Therapy.

“I’m excited to launch a brand-new bespoke nutrition service, helping employees improve their health and wellbeing through improved nutrition,” says Sarah.

So, what is nutrition? The dictionary definition is ‘the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth…’ In other words, it’s how we use food to fuel life. Nutrition is the world of complex biochemical processes that happen as a result of what we put in our mouths. Every forkful of food influences how our body works, rather like putting fuel in a car. Sarah is here to guide you on making good food choices. And to help you feel great.

We can take you on a journey through a variety of processes that include improving the quality of your sleep, your energy levels, your stress resilience, and the influence that your gut has on all of the above. Yes, that’s right, your gut. Your gut has long been associated with how you feel. When you feel nervous, ‘you get knots in your tummy…’ when you’re excited you get ‘butterflies in your tummy…’ and when you know something is right or wrong you ‘get a gut feeling.’ But the question has long been, why? What is the connection between the gut and the brain? Research is starting to give us some answers.

Your gut is home to a complex ecosystem of bacteria called the microbiome. We have around 2kg of bacteria inhabiting our microbiome and research has shown us that they can be responsible for many processes including our mood and how we feel. Sarah specialises in the gut-brain-link and is looking forward to introducing you to this world over the coming weeks and months.

We are also going to look at recipes, tips and tricks, easy bio-hacks and generally just how to improve your diet.

“First things first,” says Sarah. “Are you eating your fruits and vegetables? I want you to aim to have at least ten different fruits and vegetables a day.

“These will provide you with a whole host of fibre, prebiotics (to feed your microbiome), antioxidants and a plethora of nutrients. Are you up for the challenge?”

As well as providing advice in our wellbeing video programme and on the CPF website, Sarah will be working with clients on a one-to-one basis and delivering educational webinars, seminars, and workshops.

Sarah added: “I’m excited to be sharing the amazing world of nutrition with our clients and I’m looking forward to working with you.”
