With colder weather and shorter days, it can be a challenge to stay fit and well during the winter months.
We have put together five top tips to keep you healthy when the weather turns.
1>> Soups and stews
It’s always important to have a healthy balanced diet but when it’s cold we use more calories and it’s more important than ever to consume a diverse mixture of wholesome unprocessed ingredients. These can be included in stews, soups, curries, casseroles, and curries. Batch cook and bring them into work frozen and ready to microwave.
2>> Get out
With less sunlight, it’s important to get out and about and connect with nature. Wrap up and go for a walk at lunchtime. You will feel energised both physically and mentally.
3>> Added help for health
There isn’t enough power in the sun during the winter months to increase our levels of vitamin D but it’s worth taking a daily supplement as well as having a balanced diet.
Make sure you are up to date with any vaccines, flu or covid jabs.
4>> Keep moving
Use the gym, exercise at home, or even just stand up and walk about more. Studies show that even moderate exercise can boost your immune system too. If you are exercising outdoors in the winter warm up first.
5>> Set a goal
Setting a goal will help motivate you. Whether it’s to get into that dress for the Christmas ‘works do’ or to be able to get to the top floor at work by using the stairs. Pick one that works for you.
