At Corporate Personal Wellbeing we recognise the vital link between your mind and body.
When it comes to workplace wellbeing they cannot be separated. What happens to one affects the other. Ideally, they should be working in partnership to increase our health and wellbeing whether at work or home.
We are creating new cells every second and it is important we are aware of how activity and exercise can support the mental strain we are under.
It’s recommended that we take 20 mins to exercise three to five times per week. If you only exercise twice it’s fine but there’s nothing wrong with aiming for more.
Our personal trainers normally draw on goals such as weight loss, building muscle and fitness to motivate people, but ultimately it is what your mind experiences that will give you long-lasting results.
What happens when we exercise?
Exercise boosts your mood and reduces stress. When you exercise, your body releases chemicals such as dopamine and endorphins in your brain that make you feel happy.
Not only is your brain pumping out feel-good chemicals, but exercise also helps your brain get rid of the chemicals that make you feel stressed and anxious. People who exercise tend to be happier and less stressed than those who don’t exercise.
A recent government survey said that 71% of people who were active at work feel more focused. 66% of people feel more productive and 33% had less stress. And that’s just being active. Imagine the figures for those who exercise too.
Regular exercise can also help you control your emotions when you do feel angry or upset. This instant boost can help you cope in the short term with work and life demands and the long-term results will inspire you to continue with an exercise regimen.
We all struggle with motivation at times, but you never regret doing that walk, run or gym session.
Our top tip to boost your mental wellbeing and increase your activity is to find an exercise partner. Even better get everyone at work to join in. You can try one of our wellbeing work-based activities, have walking meetings, try a wellbeing day or just do something active that you enjoy. Teamwork never felt so good.
We always suggest starting small and planning or scheduling your activity. But if you don’t know where to start just give us a call.
Try our wellbeing videos. They are designed to help you be mindful of your physical and mental state. The postural videos will hopefully boost your confidence and help you exercise without injury. Use the video as your launchpad for exercise and set your exercise goal each week.
