FIVE WAYS TO IMPROVE SELF-MOTIVATION

Motivation

Self-motivation is a key attribute of both our professional and personal lives.

From day-to-day tasks such as making the bed or hitting the gym, to career goals and lifestyle changes our ability to self-motivate can have a significant impact on the outcome.

Here are five top tips to help improve your self-motivation:

1> Small simple wins

Having smaller, achievable goals can go a long way to increasing overall motivation. Setting a to-do list with attainable tasks allows you to achieve a lot of small wins and show progress.

This progress can improve motivation to move on and achieve our larger goals. Start your list with day-to-day tasks, or even things you have already achieved to show how much you have already accomplished.

2> Time management

Time management can be a great asset or a hindrance to our lives. Improving how we spend our time and making more efficient use of it can help improve motivation.

Procrastination can massively reduce our motivation as we see the clock ticking over and reducing the time we have to achieve our tasks.

Set timescales for tasks and stick to them. Use methods such as chunking to set realistic timescales.

3> Positive self-truths

We often believe that which we hear the most. Over time we condition our brain to believe what it hears, and negative self-truths can have an enormous impact on our overall motivation.

Instead of focusing on what we feel we can’t do, instead, focus on what we can. Today I have achieved… my greatest asset is… I am the type of person who…

Repeating and confirming these in our minds can improve our motivation by confirming the positive aspects of ourselves.

4> Create a positive personal environment

A lot of the time, the environment we create for ourselves can impact our ability to self-motivate.

This can come in the form of a routine which sets us up for the day, or an evening routine to bring our day to a productive end, setting us up well for tomorrow.

This can also be achieved by doing things which give us a boost such as using music to give us a boost or socialising and mixing with others.

5> Exercise

Improved self-image, endorphin release and improvements to overall health are all benefits of exercise which can give us the boost we need to achieve our other life goals.

These goals can all be assisted by a personal trainer who will work with you on not only your exercise goals, but also help improve self-motivation through active encouragement, goal setting and improving yourself truths.
