WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH?
Occupational health (OH) is a type of medical service, it is about how work affects employees’ both mental and physical health and also how employees’ health affects their work.
We maintain employees’ wellbeing, preventing and removing ill-health and developing services and solutions to keep employees with physical and mental health issues at work with maximum productivity.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES
HEALTH SURVEILLANCE (HSE)
Health surveillance is required by law when employees remain exposed to health risks even after controls are put in place. It is a programme of repeated health checks which are used to identify ill health caused by work or the work environment.
After which we issue Fit to Work certificates.
Checks and assessments are dependent on the associated risks and hazards. They may include:
- Eyesight
- Hearing
- Lung function
- Dermatological issues
- Hand Arm Vibration (HAV)
- Musculoskeletal (MSK)
- Working at heights
- Biological
- Night working
- Confined spaces
- Lead
- Ionising radiation
- Urinalysis – Benzene Exposure
- Specialist testing for FLT’s – Group 2 Driver’s License medical in accordance with HSE Guidance HSG 6 (Rider-operated lift trucks)
We manage the visit frequency using our software so your HR of HS team don’t need to worry about compliance.
As well as providing medical advice to the employees, we also provide you with guidance for effective work-related controls.
Health surveillance is not the same as health screening, drug and alcohol screening or health checks or health promotion. See below.
MANAGEMENT REFERRALS AND CAPABILITY ASSESSMENTS
In the realm of occupational health, Management Referrals & Capability Assessments play a pivotal role in ensuring employee wellbeing and workplace productivity.
Our assessments involve identifying and addressing potential health issues or capability concerns affecting an employee’s job performance.
Through structured evaluations, our occupational health professionals provide valuable insight, enabling informed decisions on accommodations, rehabilitation, or further support.
Our reports are timely and are provided very quickly. What’s more we are always available for further discussion.
By fostering a proactive approach to employee health and performance, such assessments contribute to a safer, healthier, and more efficient work environment, ultimately benefiting both employees and employers alike.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING
Potential employees can be medically assessed and screened to obtain a review of their health and wellbeing. We offer full support and guidance to the employer and the employee.
This can include pre-employment alcohol and drug testing.
RETURN TO WORK PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING
Returning to work, whether that is on-site or at home can be a challenging time. Our physical and mental health care professionals can help you transition them back to work complying with legal and moral obligations. From medical assessment questionnaires, interviews, and risk assessments, we will give you the correct guidance and care for your team.
This is particularly useful for employees on long-term sick leave. We can also help employees recover with services such as our long covid recovery programme and mental health counselling.
LEAVERS' MEDICALS
Our assessments provide a comprehensive overview of an employee’s health status upon exiting the organisation, helping to identify any work-related health issues or potential liabilities.
By conducting thorough evaluations, employers can mitigate risks, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and safeguard the wellbeing of departing employees.
Additionally, leavers’ medicals can offer valuable insights for future health management strategies and contribute to maintaining a positive organisational reputation for prioritising employee health and safety.
EXPECTANT AND NEW MOTHER MEDICALS
Our expectant and new mother medicals ensure the wellbeing of employees by addressing any potential risks in the workplace, providing tailored support, and facilitating necessary accommodations to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
For employers, these medicals mitigate legal and operational risks, enhance employee retention, and foster a supportive organisational culture.
By prioritising the health and welfare of expectant and new mothers, companies demonstrate their commitment to employee care and compliance with regulatory standards.
HEALTH CHECKS
Our 30-minute health checks serve as proactive measures to assess and monitor employees’ health status, identifying any potential risks or underlying conditions early on.
They are similar to our health surveillance baseline medical assessments, but for those employees who are not in high-risk areas, such as office workers.
Typical health checks include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood oxygen levels, height and weight (BMI), waist measurement as well as personalised health advice from the occupational health advisor which may include smoking cessation and exercise and nutrition.
By promoting preventive care, they contribute to reducing absenteeism, enhancing productivity, and lowering absence costs for employers.
For employees, health checks offer peace of mind, access to early interventions, and personalised health advice, fostering a corporate culture of wellbeing at work.
Clients receive anonymised, detailed reports highlighting any issues that may need further action.
We have delivered hundreds of health checks. From only £40 per person, they offer excellent value and are one of our most popular occupational health services.
VACCINE INOCULATION
The most common and effective vaccine or inoculation service is flu as this has the highest impact on absenteeism and presenteeism and productivity.
Our nurses can administer flu vaccines on-site.
ALCOHOL AND DRUG TESTING
We deliver a complete service from policy review or development through to onsite employee screening and laboratory testing.
Alcohol and drug testing in the workplace offers multifaceted benefits for employers and employees alike. Firstly, it ensures a safer work environment by identifying substance abuse issues that could compromise safety and productivity.
By deterring substance abuse, our tests reduce accidents, injuries, and potential liabilities.
Moreover, they promote employee wellbeing, as early detection enables timely intervention and access to support services.
Additionally, implementing such testing demonstrates a commitment to compliance with regulatory HSE standards and fosters a culture of accountability and trust within the company.
Ultimately, alcohol and drug testing safeguards workplace integrity, productivity, and employee health.
HEALTH PROMOTION SCHEMES
Our health promotion schemes are bespoke to the needs of your organisation but often include our most popular service the wellbeing video programme.
They are interesting and informative and designed to deliver results. Such as our mental health wellbeing pop-up.
Let our healthcare professionals and communication experts advise you on what works best and why.
OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE
We offer full environmental and industrial testing as part of our occupational hygiene service. This is bespoke to the client.
We specialise in high-risk environments; factories, processing plants, chemical plants, laboratories as well as offshore facilities.
Our visits include a walkabout session to highlight any other potential hazards. During these sessions, you have the ideal opportunity to ask specific questions of our expert occupational hygienists.
We conduct air quality and noise surveys and assessments. We take personal samples of inhalable dust and respirable dust, and background/static samples, in accordance with MDHS 14/4. A report is prepared to compare the sample results with the relevant CoSHH Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) and make recommendations where considered appropriate.
In addition, we take personal noise dosimetry measurements and an appropriate number of static/machine sound level measurements to assess exposure and prepare a report under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations.
We also test for specialist risks such as chemical and biological substances, radiation and electromagnetic fields (EMF).
Our occupational hygiene reports offer excellent value, giving expert advice for compliance and actionable points where necessary.
