WORKPLACE WELLBEING ACTIVITY: Wellbeing biscuit

Take a break

Our latest insight into workplace wellbeing activities brings us to wellbeing biscuits.

Although there is no such thing as a wellbeing biscuit, sometimes it is important to implement a social break for your team.

The main goal of a social meeting is to not talk about work. This may sound counterproductive for your business, however recent studies show an increase in staff morale, productivity, mental health wellbeing and overall engagement in the workplace following a social break at work.

A social break does not even require face-to-face interaction, this can be held online through a video conference.

Here are our top tips for a social break at work.

Don’t talk about work

Taking the time to move away from your workstation, switch off from work and relax the mind has been shown to have major mental health benefits.

Recent studies and workplace wellbeing surveys have shown staff feel more engaged with their work following a short break. Increasing engagement with work can impact staff productivity and help achieve your business goals.

Other benefits of a switch-off include a reduction in stress, increased mindfulness, and improved employee satisfaction. Improved wellbeing and mindfulness can contribute to the feeling of value to a business from an employee which has been shown to have a great increase in productivity.

Try to be active

Physical activity has a direct effect on mental health and wellbeing. Movement has been shown to improve mood, decrease stress and anxieties as well as increase focus.

Movement and physical activity doesn’t need to be vigorous, ideas can include desk yoga, walking groups, or even table tennis!

Why not look to implement a walking group at your workplace to encourage active breaks for your team?

Why not a biscuit?

We should look to choose healthy snacks in place of items with high sugar and fat content. In our recent article, desk snack hacks, we looked at great alternatives to sweet and sugary snacks in the workplace.

We should reduce the number of processed foods in our diets, as this can help our physical and mental health. The nutrients inside natural foods are great for health; naturally sweet foods such as fruit can help satisfy our sweet tooth.

There are times however when it can be good to indulge, but why not opt for homemade items such as cakes and biscuits rather than store-bought items? Often, when cakes and biscuits are homemade, they often contain less saturated fats and sugars.
